Senior Health & Safety Officer

About the role

This is a broad and influential position as the most senior safety professional within the Australian operation, providing strategic advice to management while remaining highly visible and hands-on across offices, warehouses and remote project sites. You will report to the Director Compliance, with functional support and connection to the company’s global WHS function.

Key responsibilities

• Provide oversight of electrical safety, permit-to-work systems, isolation and LOTO/LOTOTO processes, testing and commissioning activities, competency verification and field assurance
• Maintain and continually improve the ISO 45001-certified HSE management system, lead audits and corrective actions, manage the risk register, develop SWMS and safety management plans
• Conduct workplace and project-site inspections
• Lead incident investigations, including ICAM or equivalent methodologies, oversee corrective actions and support regulatory notifications, workers’ compensation and return-to-work processes
• Manage contractor HSE requirements, deliver inductions and toolbox talks, support emergency preparedness and promote a practical, proactive and accountable safety culture
• Supervise and develop an WHS Coordinator
• Ensure the company’s global HSE framework is effectively implemented within the Australian business and translated into practical, workable safety solutions in the field
• Manage electrical and high-risk work safety, including HV environments and energised plant
• Oversee risk management and psychosocial risk
• Manage safety reporting, KPIs and governance

About you

• At least 5 years’ WHS/HSE experience
• Minimum Certificate IV in WHS or greater
• Strong knowledge of Australian WHS legislation
• Sound knowledge of electrical safety
• Experience maintaining and improving an ISO 45001-certified management system
• Internal auditing and corrective-action experience
• Strong risk assessment, workplace inspection and incident investigation capability
• Experience supervising, mentoring or developing HSE personnel or contractors
• Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills
• Current First Aid/CPR, White Card and Australian driver’s licence
