National Safe Work Australia Week 2011

National Safe Work Australia Week is a key initiative of Safe Work Australia. Now in its seventh year, the week will be celebrated from 23 to 29 October 2011.  The theme for this year is "Putting safety in the spotlight".

National Safe Work Australia Week is held annually in October to raise awareness of workplace safety. The week aims to encourage all working Australians to get involved in, and concentrate on, safety in their workplace to reduce death, injury and disease.

HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED IN NATIONAL SAFE WORK AUSTRALIA WEEK?

Safety Recruitment Australia is a Safe Work Australia Safety Ambassador for 2011 and during safety week, we will be offering our existing clients a complimentary ergonomic awareness training session for their staff*.  During this week we will also be exhibiting at the Sydney Safety Show from 25-27 October at the Sydney Showgrounds, Sydney Olympic Park.

Organising an activity of any size all helps towards raising awareness.  We have listed some suggestions for possible activities/events:

► organise a healthy morning tea and conduct a Take 10@10 safety talk or activity, giving staff the chance to discuss safety concerns and initiatives;
► run your own company "Safety Awards" or competition for the best new idea to improve safety within the workplace and also acknowledge and celebrate individual contributions to safety throughout the year;
► host a healthy breakfast, ensuring senior managers attend so they too can demonstrate their commitment to safety;
► organise a staff walk followed by a healthy breakfast or morning tea;
► display safety posters at different locations across your work site.  Create your own poster to celebrate any successes in reducing injuries;
► promote health and wellbeing programs or launch a new health and wellbeing program;
► launch a Back Care Program (resources are available from most work health and safety authorities in each state or territory);
► start your own safety newsletter which can contain useful hints, tips and contacts; or
► become a Safe Work Australia Safety Ambassador.
