Asbestos Awareness Campaign
Contractors are often called to domestic premises to clean/paint a roof, undertake renovations or install plumbing or wiring. It's important that tradespeople know what to do when they suspect the material being worked on contains asbestos.
Private contractors have had to pay clean-up bills in excess of $100 000 because preventative actions were not taken before commencing a job.
Ignoring your legal obligations won't just cost you the decontamination and clean up bill. You could also face up to a $75 000 fine or one years' gaol as an individual, or $375 000 for a corporation.
Workplace Health and Safety Queensland is offering free information sessions throughout Queensland for obligation holders including builders, contractors and other trade services. The sessions will focus on safe work procedures and legal requirements to keep you, and those around you, safe when working with materials expected to contain asbestos.
To register your attendance at an information session contact Workplace Health & Safety QLD.
The above information is a QLD Government initiative and has been put on our website for information purposes for our clients and contractors. More information is available from the Workplace Health & Safety QLD website.
